Woodcrest Forge has been preserving and teaching traditional blacksmithing methods in Hillsborough, NC since its founding in 2006 by my Dad, local farmer/ troublemaker Allan Green. I began blacksmithing in the wilds of the Brooklyn waterfront in NYC around the same time; coming back home to Hillsborough a decade later has meant that we are able to share a forge and continue preserving this practical and decorative art form.

My work is in steel and other metals, found objects, new stock and old parts. I attempt to honor craftsmanship, utility, invention. As a Blacksmith and metalworker the technology and methods I employ are very old, so each piece is an attempt to bring currency to an item, a skill, or a design that might otherwise be thought commonplace. I explore ideas of perceived value; especially as it applies to pieces created from found objects, which I alter as little as possible in an attempt to turn one object into two. The production of large numbers of small pieces provides experience, examples, and techniques used in the creation of larger fixtures, which are developed over time.
